Solder Tech's Founder
Solder Tech was born because there was a need that wasn’t being met. Technicians in Austin Texas, well-rounded in various skill-sets, knowledgeable and very capable, support the high-tech industry and its Engineers. But one of the most critical skills some possess was not taught anywhere near. Electronics Soldering is presently learned on the job in most cases and is a task that is not easily avoided as a technician.
Familiarity or experience in soldering is a skill highly desired by employers, due to the high-risk and complexity of the process itself. If you know how to solder, that’s a big bonus for them. It’s not a skill that can be taught by just anyone. Inexperience in soldering can lead to the following:
*costly mistakes, resulting in scrapping of product
*delays in deliverables, due to quality concerns
*impact down-time for Engineering develepment
*create safety concerns in the work environment
My name is Abner Hinojo and I’ve been an Electronics Engineering Technician for 18 years. I have learned to solder from other technicians, manufacturing personnel and finally from official training. The one thing that I’ve observed to be consistent is the inconsistency, of skills and knowledge. I have worked for leading, Tier-1 companies such as Samsung, Cirrus Logic, SunPower Corporation, Enphase Energy, Lutron Electronics and lastly Apple Inc. The skill-sets vary, depending on which industry you enter, however they all required some form of soldering. My journey along the way has been long but very rich with learning new skills. The skills I acquired took 18 years of experience at various industries. Along the way, I taught Soldering Training in 2008 at Samsung Austin Semiconductor for new-hire technicians. I trained technicians at Cirrus Logic in 2015 after becoming certified as an IPC Certified Instructor and finally I started a soldering program at Austin Community College in 2020. I learned that teaching people how to solder was a great passion of mine. I have the qualifications. I have the passion. I am on the right path. My dream is to provide the public, electronics technicians, manufacturing personnel, engineers of all kinds, and anyone else who is interested, the opportunity to learn how to solder, the correct way.
